Our Story

Though we’re now located in Gaston, Oregon, we started our farm in Sweet Home and kept that name. We bred hair sheep for more than 15 years, but after being introduced to Clun Forest sheep we decided it was time for a change. We were convinced because the Cluns have such good production qualities and are also great for training sheepdogs.

We started with a few Cluns from various places on the West Coast, then were lucky enough to find an unrelated flock in Minnesota that was available. The Minnesota flock provides an important genetic resource for breeders in the West, as many of the Cluns in the West of the U.S. tend to be related to each other. We feel very fortunate to have been able to bring this well-known flock to Oregon.

We sell registered breeding stock, training sheep for sheepdogs, the occasional pet, and butcher lambs. We also occassionally have livestock guardian puppies for sale.

Clun Forest Sheep

Clun Forest sheep are hardy, efficient even on difficult terrain, maternal, and fertile, and are a dual or triple-purpose breed with beautiful fleeces. Ewes typically lamb easily without help, and lambs are vigorous and meaty. Clun milk has a high butterfat content and they are often milked or crossed with dairy sheep to improve milk quality.

Cluns originated in Eastern Wales and Shropshire England in the Clun Forest area.

Our Approach

We raise our sheep on pasture and hay, providing some limited grass screening pellets in the last stage of gestation for ewes and to the ewe/lamb flock in the period before the pasture grass comes on. We deworm only as needed and select for parasite resistance.
